Other victims of the shooting

It is worth writing separately about the victims of the tragedy whose guilt in bullying Alina has not been confirmed by anyone.

Masha Nesmachnaya

Everyone who posted any information about the tragedy (including anonymously) unanimously claimed that the relationship between Alina and Masha was cordial. There were even suggestions that Alina shot "the wrong girl," as it was believed that she wanted to kill the instigator of the bullying, not Masha.

Alina and Masha were even friends for some time. Last year they attended each other's birthday parties.

"The girl killed in the Bryansk school (Masha) wanted to invite the girl who shot her to her birthday party in a few weeks. She was supposed to turn 15 on December 27th. The deceased said that her classmate, who eventually shot her with a shotgun, was good and kind."

"As SHOT learned, the deceased and the shooter were not only classmates. The girls grew up in the same courtyard – their houses are literally 50 meters apart. And the school where the classmates studied is only a five-minute walk from their apartment buildings (approximately 450 meters), and the girls walked to classes every day along the same route."

Timur Demin

Like Masha, Timur was described by everyone only in positive terms. No one could recall a single incident where he showed aggression towards Alina. Demin's mother also claimed after the shooting that "Timur had been friends with Alina and her twin sister since kindergarten! They were very good friends."

Nevertheless, almost all the parents of the victims either deny the bullying in the class or try to avoid this topic. They can be understood, because if the whole truth came to light, their children would at best be passive observers of Alina being driven to suicide.

Parents in Russia are not obligated to testify against their children, which is enshrined in Article 51 of the Russian Constitution. This may explain their behavior and their desire to conceal the truth.

How can we explain that two classmates who were friends with Alina in childhood became victims of targeted shootings? After all, the shooting, apparently, was not random. Answering this question is quite difficult, as many details of the investigation are still being kept secret.

Some people familiar with the class have put forward a hypothesis that seems quite logical to us. It was especially painful for Alina that her childhood friends did not stand up for her (at least), and possibly even supported the aggressors. At least they were in close contact with the bullies and were friends with them.

Of course, in this case, the shooting of her former friends was unjust. They did not deserve such a harsh punishment. But one cannot evaluate the decisions of a bullied and cornered child from the standpoint of formal logic. As psychologists assert, bullying breaks a person's psyche. The sense of empathy gradually disappears. And the resentment towards her former friends, who turned away from her in a difficult moment, could have outweighed common sense in Alina's mind.

The girl's (Alina's) state at the time of the shooting can hardly be considered adequate. After all, according to the children themselves, classmates had been bullying the girl since elementary school.

"She was bullied. Maybe she went crazy because of the bullying. <...> She was a withdrawn girl and started with the boys because they were making fun of her,"

a friend of Alina's classmates reported.

"She was normal until they told her, 'You can't do anything to us, you're helpless,'" another student shared.

In any case, the adults are to blame for Masha's death and Timur's injuries, as they witnessed the bullying and either couldn't or didn't want to do anything to stop it.
